Attegi is a Ghost theme for long-form writing. This guide takes you from a fresh download to a site that looks like yours. Set aside ten minutes; you will not need to touch any code.

🧭
The Attegi handbook. This is part one. Next, Writing in Attegi shows what every editor card looks like, and Theme Settings, Explained covers each option in Ghost Admin.

1. Install the theme

  1. Download attegi.zip from the latest release. Keep it zipped.
  2. In Ghost Admin, open Settings → Design & branding, then Change theme in the bottom corner.
  3. Choose Upload theme, select the zip, and click Activate.

That is the whole installation. Visit your homepage and you should see Attegi.

⚠️
On macOS, Safari sometimes unzips downloads automatically. If Ghost rejects the upload, make sure you are uploading the .zip file, not a folder.

2. Give the site an identity

Open Settings → General and fill in three things:

  • Title and description. The title appears in the header; the description is used by search engines and social previews.
  • Site icon. A square PNG, at least 512 × 512. It becomes the favicon and the home-screen icon.
  • Publication language. Attegi translates its interface into 30+ languages. Use the exact code, such as en, zh, or zh-Hant.

Then open Settings → Design & branding → Brand and pick an accent color. Links, buttons, and quote borders all use it.

3. Pick your colors

In Design & branding, switch to the Theme tab. The first two settings matter most:

  • Color scheme is System by default, which follows each reader's device. Choose Light or Dark to force one look.
  • Dark mode accent color replaces your accent color at night. Bright brand colors often look harsh on a dark background, so pick a softer version here.

Every other option is described in Theme Settings, Explained.

4. Set up navigation

Go to Settings → Navigation. The Primary navigation sits in the header; Secondary navigation sits in the footer. A good starting point:

Label URL
Home /
Guides /tag/guide/
Tags /tags/
About /about/

On phones, the header collapses into a menu button automatically.

5. Add the special pages

Attegi ships with page layouts that Ghost's default themes do not have. Each one takes a minute to set up.

  • Tags gives visitors a visual index of your topics. Create a page with the URL tags.
  • Links turns a list of bookmark cards into a tidy blogroll. Create a page with the URL links.
  • About is an ordinary page. Write it like a letter, not a résumé.

Links, Tags and 404 Pages explains each layout in detail.

6. Write your first post

Open the editor and start typing. A few habits make Attegi look its best:

  • Use real headings for sections, not bold text. With two or more, Attegi builds a table of contents for the post automatically.
  • Add a feature image. It becomes the full-width cover at the top of the post and the image on social cards.
  • Write a custom excerpt in the post settings. It appears under the title on the homepage.
  • Type / on an empty line to insert cards: images, galleries, code, callouts, toggles, and more.

When something looks wrong

The theme uploaded, but the site still looks the same

Make sure you clicked Activate after uploading. If you did, hard-refresh the page (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + R) to skip the browser cache.

Ghost says the theme has errors

Download the zip again from the releases page. Every release is checked with GScan, Ghost's official validator, before it is published, so an error usually means the file was changed or unzipped along the way.

The table of contents does not appear

It needs at least two headings (levels 2 to 4), and it only appears on posts, not pages. Check that your section titles are real headings rather than bold paragraphs, and that the post does not carry the internal tag #no-toc.

The interface is in the wrong language

Check Settings → General → Publication language. Ghost does not guess: zh-Hant works, zh-TW does not.
